Cultural and other activities
Coniston prides itself in offering a wide range of cultural activities that broaden students’ perspectives and give them insights into new fields of knowledge.
From socials, celebrations, talks, films, concerts to outings in the countryside or cultural sites. In informal get-togethers, students share with each other the food, music and culture of their home countries.
For those who are interested, Coniston also offers pastoral care imbued with a Christian ethos and students can find out more about the Catholic faith. The religious formation is entrusted to Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church. Opus Dei helps ordinary men and women …live human and Christian virtues in and through their everyday work and family life.The Chaplain of the residence celebrates Holy Mass regularly and is available for spiritual guidance and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There are also sessions of guided prayer for those who wish. Coniston arranges retreat weekends to spend time with God in prayer and reflection.
Guest speakers
At Coniston we have a tradition of lectures given by society leaders and inspirational professionals. In sharing their unique experiences with us, guest speakers give us the invaluable opportunity to broaden our outlook and grow in our sense of social responsibility. Speakers have included, Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council and Sir Peter Fahy, former Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police as well as some academic speakers from the universities. We also welcomed Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham who gave an insightful talk for those considering careers in politics or social affairs.
